Confidence

The clothes you wear and how you wear them affect how you see yourself. you can say “It’s just clothes” but you see, it’s more than that. If you feel good about how you are dressed, chances are your walk will be different, you tend to not be as self-conscious or insecure about what you are wearing. so what then is the starting point? it is no hidden fact that how you feel about yourself runs deeper than the clothes you wear, It requires an internal change in you, and one of the expressions of that internal change is coming to terms with who are you and what you look like at the moment, as opposed to what you want to look like. Dressing up is a conscious effort that requires understanding what looks good on you, and in short understanding what looks good on your body type. We, humans, are built differently, we come in different shapes and sizes, for example, what works on a slim broad-shouldered lady may not work for a pear-shaped lady with narrow shoulders. It’s okay to have people or celebrities you admire and want to dress like, but it is important to understand your body type, shape, and size and just like a piece of art, you should boldly embrace the uniqueness of your body and understand what clothing suits you best.

I have an athletic body type, with broad bony shoulders and narrow hips with a pouty derriere. For many years I refused to acknowledge my body, I always admired and wished my body was more like my sisters’ - more feminine, soft, with smaller limbs and feet, my definition of the perfect female form, but little did I know that my body type was also feminine and just as beautiful. I had to learn to see myself in the present and accept my body as the gift that it is and honor it by adorning my body with better-suited clothing. The more I consciously made this adjustment, the more I started appreciating my body, Here are a few adjustments I made:

I stay away from Dolman sleeves why? dolman sleeves have sleeve seams that start past the shoulder, they overemphasize my broad shoulders and make them broader than they already are, instead, I opt for shirts and blouses with sleeve seams that start right on the shoulder or a little before, I find that those suit me better.

Tea Length skirts: fitted skirts or gathered as long as they have cinched-in waistbands I look divine in them.

I can go on and on but the point is part of feeling good about yourself is paying attention to how you dress.
